Wikia - creating communities

[edit] Starter Wikia in French?

I have been looking at the Portuguese-language Genealogy Wikia because of my interest in genealogy. Very little help (and apparently no direct help with Portuguese-language wiki work except the Main Page template) was given to its founder in the way all English-language Wikia now get dozens of starter pages. Its founder edited for two days in March and another registered member managed 10 days. Half a dozen other people made one or two edits in the subsequent 9 weeks. Maybe they were discouraged by the lack of structure?

Some weeks ago I was looking at a French-language Wikia and thinking similar thoughts. As I can write a bit of French and understand most sentences, I wondered whether I might help it. But there are a lot of French-language Wikia sites.

Material can be copied laboriously from existing large Wikia in the chosen language and the corresponding Wikipedia, but that's not ideal - founders and other contributors should be able to get on with creating content, without having to half-invent all the wheels to make the show run smoothly.

Is there a project aimed at creating a French Starter Wikia? It should need only a few volunteers to translate the existing Starter Wikia and some technical work (I suppose) to organise that the pages be given to all new French-language Wikia (and offered to the pre-existing ones for bulk importation - by bot?). I've seen Category:Pages in French here: some of that looks as if it would adapt easily for a generic Starter Wikia.

Head on over to Requests Robin; I'm sure staff would be more than willing to set up a French Starter wiki (with the usual editing restrictions) and make you an admin there. -- Manticore (talk) 12:40, 10 June 2008 (UTC)

Among all french users on Wikia, i might be to one who contribute the most (even here on Central altough it's in the forums),

I already have translated some Central help pages over at fr.guildwars. Hurgh! I've just check this over there i only found this one where after a small introduction, i've translated Wikia protection policy. It was needed because sysops on fr.guildwars always wanted to protect everything with no good reasons.
